The palate has that floral grassy nose that I frequently get with Irish whiskey, malty. The palate is fruity and dry, sweet, malted balls. The finish is medium with more floral notes. This is slightly better than the standard Bushmills expression

The nose gives you an impression that this is a soft rye with vanilla, wood, and cinnamon. The palate however starts off hot right away followed by spice and pepper and back to the vanilla. The finish reminds you quickly that this is a hot rye with some lovely spice and licorice. You would be hard pressed to find a better rye in this price range.

The nose is about as light as a bourbon can get. The palate is much of the same, light sweetness on both, buttery. This almost reminds me of canadian whiskey. The finish is the best part of this expression, there is some nice rye spice here. Overall, this is an ultra smooth bourbon with no real character.

Arran The Amarone Cask Finish

Finished in Amarone barrels, Amarone is a dry Italion red wine. The nose is like a fruit basket that was smothered in chocolate. The palate has some darker chocolates, dried fruits and spice. The finish is more oak and fruit, lovely balance. This expression is quite good and very unique.

This expression is made from 16 different malt whiskies that are aged in a range of 8-16 years. The nose is malt and honey with ripe fruit. The palate has some nice spice to it, rich and tangy and very young tasting. The finish has a slight bite to it but not offensive. Jim Murray has called this expression “young and sprightly” I would say that’s a good description…. decent blend for the price

The nose has some malt and cereal/grain aspects to it. The palate has some orange and sour rotten nuts to it. I barely noticed the finish as I almost spit it out but some sourness did linger. The nose and intial palate led me to believe that this could be used as a mixer, so not a total loss. But why buy a $40 mixer?

Glenfiddich 15 Solera

Age: 15 yrs

ABV: 40.00%

Price: $44

For my money this is the best of the Glenfiddich expressions when compared to the 12 and 18. It’s far less expensive than the 18 but has a much richer palate with some nice sherry to it. The nose is sherry and oranges, fresh fruit. The palate has a very nice silky sherry taste to it, yet not to sweet. The sherry taste is followed up by some raisin cake and more fruit. The finish has some nice oak to it and more sherry starts to linger here. This is a great buy at under 50.
