The nose has a liqueur feel to it, sweet red wine. The palate is dry and fruity, and a little spicy. Tha balance seems a bit off here. The finish has some lingering fruit and a syrupy sweetness. Overall this expression is decent and worth trying a dram or two. I really like the eclectic lineup of Arran. There is certainly something in their complete lineup for everyone.
Yet another interesting expression by the Arran distillery. I am becoming a fan. This expression was aged for eight years in oak before being transfered into sauterne casks. I would say that it’s not quite as good as the sauterne cask by Glenmorangie. However, with it’s high ABV it may be a bit more interesting…you decide. The nose has a lot of fruit, apricots and honey. The palate is rich with spice and that familiar sauterne taste of Bordeaux sweet white wine. The finish is more fruit, orange and spice.
The distillery is run by only three people and is located on the Isle of Orkney. The nose has a nice sweet fruit and floral scent. The palate is very rich with spice and has an amazing ballance to it. This expression really goes down easy. The finish is soft and malty and slightly dry. Scapa is fantastic and is a steal even in the $70 range.
The nose on this is so rich, I have to nose it around for a while before I sip it. Lots of big spice and sherry here on the palate and the nose. The palate tastes like candy cane and a spiced sherry mix. The finish is much more complex than that of the younger expressions though it’s a little light, there is some smoke that is also present. This is a very good bottle…..B+/A-
This is a very strong B and the best of the expressions I have had yet by this rather young distillery (1993) The nose is mild but sweet with some light vinegar. The taste is enhanced a great deal on this expression by letting it breath. The palate has some vanilla/citrus and is light tasting though the finish does become hot. The heat here is a really nice finishing burn that lingers. I really enjoyed this expression and suggest this one as a must try for an Island style expression that is unique.
The nose has some peach and heat. The palate is hot and warm with some pepper, You can taste the youth here. (Older Talisker is better) In the finish there is some real heat and a light amount of smoke. Talisker 10 is a solid whiskey in this price range.
