The nose is peat and medicine. The medicine quality on the nose and palate is much lighter than that of the QC ( not better, just lighter) The palate has a nice sweet maltyness to it, very rich, salty, iodine, lots of sea qualities. The finish is long and has all the signature aspects of most Laphroaigs. Massive peat, I don’t really get that bit of orange that you get in the standard 10, but I’m ok without it. Fantastic stuff!

Not a typical Macallan here, cask strength and no sherry. The nose is fresh fruit/ citrus. The palate has some serious malt and cereal, I love the ballance of malt and light sweetness here. The finish is medium and not as hot as I would have expected, nice spice and figs taste in the end. This is nicely done.

(Sampled from batch 45) This is a non chill-filtered cask strength expression that was soaked in oloroso sherry butts. The nose is spicy with sweet orange notes. The palate has some dried fruit, creamy with a healthy amount of sherry. The finish is a bit bitter and hot, with some chocolate and spice. I really like this expression. However, I have had some of the other batches which I have liked better. From batch to batch these are a bit different, some are in the B+ range.

Batch that was sampled 0512T/bottled 05/12…. The nose on this is strong and fruity with some malt and nuts. The palate has some vanilla and sweet fruit, syrup. The finish is hot with some spice and black liquorice. Delicious is the best way to describe this expression. For the price this bottle is a steal. Fantastic stuff!

Massive smoke and heat on the nose with a slight amount of wood. The palate is sweetness mixed with medicine and Oak. The finish is hot with big peat. I love this expression by Laphroaig. This is one of the better single malts at this price for sure. Bolder with more character than the 10 year, although I love them both.

Dalmore 14 Year Rum Cask (Chieftain’s)

Type: Scotland, Single Malt, Highland

Age: 14 Yrs

The nose is hot with some small hints of sweetness. The palate has some sweet rum to it but very faint. The finish lingers with this hot putrid paint lacquer. I would only drink this if it was free.

The nose is quite nice with some sweet medicine notes going on. On the palate there is some earth but a little bitter. I can’t taste much of the sweetness that I got in the nose. The finish doesn’t seem to have the big peat as other Laphroaigs but it does linger for a while with some strong notes of medicine. There is a significant bite in the finish. Although I do like this one, I actually prefer some of the much cheaper Laphroaigs than this one. I love a big peaty finish and I’m not sure where it is here. It’s a good bottle but not a great one Esp. at this price.
