The nose on this is oiled leather and fungus. The palate has the mildest of smoke and tastes extremely young which is strange considering that it’s blended with whiskies that are 13 and 21 years of age. Very sour which lingers into the finish, thin and bland. Not as offensive as the 16 but not far off either. There are cheap blends that are much better than this.

The nose reminds me of honey nut cheerios with some melon. The palate is quite sweet with more honey and vanilla, slightly spicy. The finish is a little bitter but not bad, light smoke, caramel. This is an easy drinking expression. Not a bad single malt to start with. C+/B-

Arran The Amarone Cask Finish

Finished in Amarone barrels, Amarone is a dry Italion red wine. The nose is like a fruit basket that was smothered in chocolate. The palate has some darker chocolates, dried fruits and spice. The finish is more oak and fruit, lovely balance. This expression is quite good and very unique.

The nose is sweet with fruit and burnt caramel. The palate is rich and sweet with sherry and a light smokiness. The finish is a bit dry with some light smoke and sherry… Great balance here. This expression is just a tad better than the 12 and a bit short of the 18. I enjoy this a lot but if you can afford the extra cash… buy the 18.

Arran Port Cask Finish

The nose has a liqueur feel to it, sweet red wine. The palate is dry and fruity, and a little spicy. Tha balance seems a bit off here. The finish has some lingering fruit and a syrupy sweetness. Overall this expression is decent and worth trying a dram or two. I really like the eclectic lineup of Arran. There is certainly something in their complete lineup for everyone.

Yet another interesting expression by the Arran distillery. I am becoming a fan. This expression was aged for eight years in oak before being transfered into sauterne casks. I would say that it’s not quite as good as the sauterne cask by Glenmorangie. However, with it’s high ABV it may be a bit more interesting…you decide. The nose has a lot of fruit, apricots and honey. The palate is rich with spice and that familiar sauterne taste of Bordeaux sweet white wine. The finish is more fruit, orange and spice.

Arran Single Cask Sherry

Cask Number 69, Bottle 316/592, Distilled 03/02/98 Bottled 28/08/07…….. The nose on this is sherry, sweetened raisins, spiced rum cake. On the palate there is a massive amount of sherry, spicy sweet syrup, pancakes. The finish is medium and goes down like a high end dessert wine. If you have not ever tried one of these single cask expressions by Arran, I highly suggest that you give one a taste. Esp. the sherry expressions
